The NEW Song that Never Ends

Fun things: I did a couple DIY refashions this weekend.
1. The flair white jeans I skinnied last summer... now shorts.
2. The long sleeve I haven't worn since 2009... now a tank.

Maybe you've already seen these photos,
but if not don't forget to follow on instagram @patternedlove

As elementary, middle, and high schools let out in mid June,
drivers everywhere stopped having pity parties and started having dance parties
in their cars as they did NOT have to drive 20mph anymore for some ridiculous
length before and after the school grounds when they're already late to work.

And with these series of events, adults everywhere start seeing youngsters
in stores, on sidewalks, and in coffee shops in the MIDDLE OF THE DAY.
To some adults it's annoying, but in my opinion this makes for many
wonderful people watching experiences (in a totally NON-creeper-ish way).

As I checked the mail a few weeks back, I paused to thumb through
and find anything that anyone might possible have sent for me.
Nothing... but what's this? A faint voice in the wind?

Yes, the neighbor boy...
What's that? Is he singing?
Yes! That is without-a-doubt a little 7(ish) year old singing at the top of his lungs.
But wait... what is that lyric I hear?

He has made up a new and original song
that for the past 5 WEEKS has not left me alone...
it echos over and over and over in my increasingly annoyed,
but initially laughing mind.

"IT'S SUMMER!
I'M GUNNA DO WHATEVER I WAaaaaaNT!"
"IT'S SUMMER!
I'M GUNNA DO WHATEVER I WAaaaaaNT!"
"IT'S SUMMER!
I'M GUNNA DO WHATEVER I WAaaaaaNT!"
"IT'S SUMMER!
I'M GUNNA DO WHATEVER I WAaaaaaNT!"

There is a strange tune. He made it up... It wont leave me alone.
I cracked up at first. In fact, I literally laughed out loud
as I went inside chanting with him.
But at this point, it's officially an anthem in my head that wont stop.

So currently the only appropriate actions is clearly
to choreograph an entire dance number
and enter as an act in an upcoming talent show!

Psalm 108:3-4
I will give thanks to you, O Lord, among the peoples;
I will sing praises to you among the nations.
For your steadfast love is great above the heavens;
your faithfulness reaches to the clouds.

Story Time: Basketball & A Broken Necklace

The fun things about this outfit:
Pants - Thrifted & Skinnied, Shoes - Target sale, Shirt - HandMeDown, Necklace - Made by Me

So when I was in high school I used to wear my moms old jewelry. I thought it was the coolest thing when I wore something "SO OLD" and I always was drawn to this large beaded necklace with short 4-5 strands. It was beautiful. But I could never get the courage to wear something so attention grabbing. I was a total sports girl, and never really dressed up unless my team decided it would be a fun idea...which hardly appealed to me.

One day I finally mustered up the gusto to just do it. I clasped that necklace on my neck like I had just put on the crown jewels. I walked into school with my head high and feeling proud. Well, it didn't take long after the final bell that let the prisoners free from 7th period, for me to find my way to the gym. I had a practice in an hour that day and not a ton of homework, so to pass the time... why not shoot some hoops right?

Wrong.

With my first jump to steal the ball from the enemy (aka the friend I was playing with), the crown jewels burst from my neck and scattered across the gym floor. To make matters worse, I was right next to the bleachers and as you probably can assume, beads rolled their little selves right under that never ending black cave. I rushed to find a paper cup and started to fill it with any beads I could find. All I could hear was the echo of my mom's voice as if it was coming from the sky itself, "Do. Not. Break. This."

Well...It took me a few weeks before the courage was gained to tell my mom about the explosion of her necklace. The amount of courage needed was far surpassing the amount needed to wear the thing in the first place. Thank goodness my mom loved me more than that lovely necklace.

And so my creativity started in the world of jewelry.
I did what I could to create something new from the beads I had crawled
on all fours to collect. And, yes, it's the one I'm wearing in this outfit.

Funny how inspiration starts.

Ephesians 4:20-24
But that is not the way you learned Christ!— assuming that you have heard about him and were taught in him, as the truth is in Jesus, to put off your old self, which belongs to your former manner of life and is corrupt throughdeceitful desires, and to be renewed in the spirit of your minds, and to put on the new self, created after the likeness of God in true righteousness and holiness.

Chase Me Again: A Unique Thrift Shop for You {Four}

Ok, I know you saw this outfit last week. That's why there aren't a ton of pictures to
show the outfit. But I had to put it in here because it is soooo from Chase Me Again.

Both the dress and the shades are from the store! I was so pumped when
I came across these shades for $1.00 that I snatched them right up.
I know they're ridiculously goofy, but hey, that's me!

I wanted to show you a little look inside the doors of Chase Me Again.
After reading all the amazing places that they give their proceeds, I just know you're all ready to donate and shop. Sue made sure to tell us what sort of things they accept.

We take clothing, accessories, books, household items, home decor, and furniture.

What we can't take is kids highchairs, cribs, car seats, or strollers.
Our insurance company does not want to cover the liability these items may bring on.
In fact most thrift store cannot take these items any more for the same reason.

We also had to stop taking in the real heavy furniture. We have an all woman
staff and we just can't lift the big pieces. But we love small to medium sized furniture!

Or maybe you don't have anything to donate but still want to be part of the great things going on at Chase Me Again. Don't worry, Sue told us some other things we could do!

Customers contribute to the cause whenever they buy from us.
We can't keep the doors open if we aren't making money.

We also need to keep spreading the word about our store so that we get
more customers. I love hearing from the new customers how they found our store.
Most of the time it's by word of mouth and usually from more than one source.

During the winter we will do a food and toiletry drive for the warming shelter aga
in.

So jump in your car and get over there!

John 15:9-11
As the Father has loved me, so have I loved you. Abide in my love.
If you keep my commandments, you will abide in my love, just as I have kept my
Father's commandments and abide in his love. These things I have spoken to you,
that my joy may be in you, and that your joy may be full.

Goof Off a Little!

The fun things about this outfit:
Shirt - Thrifted, Shades - Thrifted ($1), Earrings - Old Navy ($2), Jeans - Refasioned, Shoes - Old Navy

Sometimes you just have to be goofy right?
Well, for me that's pretty much on the daily!

Let's be honest, we can't be soooo serious about everything. I mean, be serious when you
need to but ham it up sometimes people! I think this is one of the fun things about getting
dressed in the morning! Sometimes the goofy just needs to manifest itself in the clothes I wear.

So go out there...And goof off a little!

Romans 1:16

Guest Post: Kala {My Breezy Room}

You all know that I love to thrift shop...
You know... before there was a song about having $20 in my pocket.
Well once again, welcome back my friend Kala from My Breezy Room
She is a refashionista of another sort! Furniture!!!!
And today she has some tips of and tricks to share with you!
_____________

Hi guys! I'm glad to be back today to give you some tips about the kind of thrifting
I do on a regular basis. Just like Naomi finds old clothes and refashions them so they
fit in her closet, I find old, outdated and ugly furniture and repair/repaint
it to make it fit into my decor style.

Today I'm going to share a few of my furniture thrifting tips with you.

1) Real wood is the way to go.
Unless you're shopping for a specific chair or something a little different, let's
just assume that most of the time you're looking for a dresser or a table or a
cabinet to repaint. I've learned there is a difference between real wood and particle
board. Real wood is easier to paint, easier to repair and much more sturdy.
2) Thrift stores aren't always the first place to look.
Now that shabby chic has become super popular, thrift stores have jacked up the price
of every piece of furniture made out of real wood. If you only check out the thrift stores,
you'll end up spending way more on a piece of furniture than you have to/should.

3) Never underestimate the power of garage sales.
For the most part, there is just a bunch of junk at garage sales. Especially when
you're looking for furniture made out of real wood, not particle board. But sometimes
it's a lot of fun to go from garage sale to garage sale and try to find hidden treasures.
One time I spent an entire Saturday  garage saling with my sister and we came
home with lamps, picture frames and quite a bit of other stuff for under $30.
4) Estate sales are like golden garage sales.
So this may be a bit morbid, because usually they are the product of someone dying,
but families are also willing to get rid of everything for a lower price at estate sales.
Be sure to go to the ones ran by the family and not the ones ran by estate sale companies,
the companies generally have higher prices. The best thing about estate sales is that
they are selling everything, not just things they're willing to throw away like at
garage sales. This means there is more potential to find bigger, nicer furniture.

5) Don't entirely give up on thrift stores.
While I don't think you should spend all your time there, checking in at thrift stores
from time to time can earn you some pretty great scores. I got this dresser I now
use as my TV stand at a thrift store for $4.99.
6) Don't be afraid to ask for a lower price.
The first time I did this I was terrified. I was at an estate sale and decided to buy a
bedroom set that consisted of a dresser, a chest of drawers, and a night stand.
They had it priced for $200. After debating with my boyfriend and making myself
super nervous, I offered them $125. They accepted it before I could finish saying my offer.
That's when I knew I should have gone lower. They practically would have paid
someone to haul that set out of the house. And don't feel bad about it.
Most of the time, people just really want to get rid of their old stuff.
Hopefully these tips help you in your next search for a hidden treasure,
whether it's to add that perfect touch to your living room or find the perfect
nightstand for your bedroom. If all else fails, ask your friends and family if they
have any furniture they'd be willing to get rid of. Actually, maybe you should
start with that step! Head to my blog now for Naomi's tips on thrifting clothes!

Thanks again, Naomi, for having me back here so soon!

5 Things: {My 5 Favorite Summer Outfits}

Yesterday it rained!!!
Most people here in the northwest start praying right about now for another 2 weeks {at least} of sunshine. I, on the other hand, did a happy dance! I love every single season and seriously love when they turn into each other. So rain is a welcome friend in my book!

And even though I look at the forecast and know that there is another 3 days this week in the upper 80's, the rain still had me thinking about the sweaters I'll soon get to wear. And about boots I haven't dusted off in a few months! So with the new, I also thought of the old.

Since September will be here before I post again, I think it only fair to do a recap. So here are my 5 faves from this summer's wonderful tank-top season, better known as summer!

Because I really do love all these outfits, these 5 are in no particular order.

1. Little Purple Dress can be seen in This Post... And Yep, I found an occasion to wear it!
I attended a beautiful beach wedding where I was one of the only ones to wear heels!

2. Pink Pants can be seen in This Post... Yes people... This was just yesterday.
That doesn't disqualify it from being one of my faves though, does it?

3. This lil rockin' outfit can be seen in This Post... You'll find a DIY!
That skirt, my friends, used to be a pillow case where I rested my purdy lil head.

4. Dotted Shirt can be seen in This Post... Ok people!
I'm still excited that I made this shirt without a pattern or thought from a previous shirt.
And I may or may not be over my Cake Boss addiction.

And last but NOT least at all:

5. High-Low dress can be seen in This Post... After revisiting this post
I now want to eat a burger...

Which reminds me of the fact I just ate the best burger for lunch yesterday.
I guess you'll have to wait to hear about that though.

2 Peter 3:8-9
But do not overlook this one fact, beloved, that with the Lord one day is as
thousand years, and a thousand years as one day. The Lord is not slow to
fulfill his promise as some count slowness, but is patient toward you, not
wishing that any should perish, but that all should reach repentance.
