Thankful Thursday: Gifts

The fun things about this outfit:
Sweater - Free, Jeans - Buckle, Shoes - Target, Bracelet - Thrfited, Necklace - HomeMade

This necklace started from an old chain found in my mom's garage and a short skirt
that makes a tall girl like me look like I'm showing a little too much badonkadonk.

Here's how I created it:
1. Pick some materials.
2. Cut strips of fabric. (try to choose something that doesn't fray)
3. Get your piles of fabrics set out and ready to go.
4. Tie lots of knots!
5. Wear that thing like a boss!

All this brings me to what I'm thankful for...
I'll be joining my sister Rachel for her monthly theme of Thankful Thursdays
So appropriately kicking off today on Thanksgiving!

I'm so incredibly thankful for having the ability to cut strips of fabric. And that I'm able to tie a knot.
I love that I have a mind that can be creative when I see an old skirt and a bulky chain.
I'm just so incredibly grateful that God has given me the gift of craftiness... I know it's not on
the list of spiritual gifts, but I'm claiming it as God given anyways!

James 1:17
Every good gift and every perfect gift is from above, coming down from the
Father of lights with whom there is no variation or shadow due to change.

Refashion: Pillow Case

The fun things about this outfit:
Skirt - Made by Me, Shirt - Refashioned, Belt - Somewhere $5, Watch - Thrifted, Shoes - DSW, Necklace - Free

That's right everyone! This skirt was a pillow case. Look down your nose at me if you want to, but I say Heck Yes, I did that!

It was so fast and easy!
1. Get a pillow case.
2. Cut the closed end of the pillow case off.
3. Hem the side you just cut.
4. Thread elastic through the hem and sew shut.
5. Wear that business!

Seriously, this is an outfit of epic proportions. The t-shirt I'm wearing is from a few years ago at camp. I love the t-shirt. It's bright! But I don't really sport a crew neck T very often. So I chopped off the sleeves and neckline, and whipped it on... And what do ya know? It looked legit.

And that my friends, is how to dress on the cheap!

Colossians 3:1-2
If then you have been raised with Christ, seek the things that are above, where Christ is, seated at the right hand of God. Set your minds on things that are above, not on things that are on earth.

Home Made & Cake Boss

The fun things about this outfit:
1. Shirt - HOME MADE
2. White Jeans - Thrifted then Skinnied
3. Shoes - Ross (Jessica Simpson)
4. Teal Bracelet - Thrifted
5. Purse - Thrifted
6. Necklace - Home Made

As you can see in some of the close up sleeve details, I'm not an expert seamstress.
But I sure do like to sew. Most day's I'm 100% winging it but sometimes it comes out like
this shirt...Amazing! I'm sure you've already caught on that I'm a little proud of this one.

And yes, I am standing in front of that fun store, Foxtrot Vintage,
from yesterday's fun post. Good eye you savvy reader!

You know how most people have a TV show that seems silly to watch,
but they can't get enough? Oh my goodness. Cake Boss!

I'm saying this with minimal guilt because most of the time it was on as background
noise as I did productive things (most...of the time). I think I probably watched close to
25 episodes of Cake Boss in the last 3 days. This team of people is seriously talented...
Ralph, you sculpting genius, sarcastic, witty guy, you! Keeps me laughing!

Are there any other shows I should be watching out there?
I'm talking serious talent or seriously funny. Give me some new ideas
because youtube is running out of episodes for me to watch the Boss!

Philippians 2:3-5
Do nothing from selfish ambition or conceit, but in humility count
others more significant than yourselves. Let each of you look not
only to his own interests, but also to the interests of others.
Have this mind among yourselves, which is yours in Christ Jesus

Weekend Recap

Ok, tell me this is true for everyone else, too!
Weekends go by waaay to fast!

Sometimes I feel like I go in having a seriously manageable list of To-Do's and
by the end I'm thinking, "What have I been doing for the past 2 days?"

This weekend, however, was packed with lots of fun!

Friday Night my church had a Ladies Night! It was organized as a
fundraiser for the Guardian Project which is working toward bringing
a mobile ultrasound unity to our community.

This fundraiser was So. Much. Fun. Ladies came and set up little stations. Retro Modern Hats was selling adorable hats for ladies and babies. Someone was there selling skin care products. We had a couple talented gals getting us all dolled up. One for hair, one for make up. Worlds Apart Studios was there doing a photo booth. (yep they take my outfit shots and are amazing. They even have a blog you could follow.) There was coffee, wine, and most importantly...dessert! So as I at some delicious treats I had my hair curled by a pro.

Oh yeah, and I brought some of my favorite DIY inspirations from
psimadethis.com to share. I felt a little lame having not done one of the
DIY's yet, so this weekend I got to work. If you follow my instagram
@patternedlove you may recognize these sweet denims.

I had to wear these out so I was pretty excited I had a dinner date with one of my
dearest friend who's just returned home after being oversees for almost a year.
We ate some amazing Mexican food, down in trendy town... well that's what I call it.

That's all for today! Check back tomorrow for an outfit post.
And don't forget! I now have a facebook page! Yeah! Joining this century!
Head over and like it. And leave me your link below so I can return the favor.

Wonderful Walker, Facebook, and HomeMade

The fun things about this outfit:
1. Shirt - 100% HomeMade. This is the second
shirt I ever made. Just fabric & my brain.
2. Leggings - Second Hand
3. Boots - Borrowed
4. Scarf - Gift (Yes. It is now way to hot for scarves!)

Well I've got a list of DIY's that I'd like to get done by mid July.
Sooo, that means that you should be seeing more of the crafty,
wingin' it side of me pretty soon!

On Saturday as I stood on a corner advertising our Plant Sale fundraiser,
a pair of walkers came across the street. Our general reaction to this, is to politely
step out of their way so we're not in their face screaming "GET YOUR PLANTS!"

But a strange and wonderful thing happened as I made momentarily awkward
eye contact with one of said walkers. She looked me up and down a few times in
my running/get-a-tan-on-the-corner clothes and the said, "Hey, I follow your blog."

Say what home girl?

She said, "Yeah, aren't you the blogger from Patterned Love?"

By now I'm seeing fireworks and starting to blush. What?
Who am I that someone would notice me on the side of the road?
Who am I that I have a legit home town follower!
I wanted to do a happy dance involving the stainky leg, disco, and a strange
shoulder shimmy all while singing Oh Happy Day...
But then I remembered I was standing next to a High School girl
who'd just met me that morning.
Gotta ease people into my crazy, ya know.
I'm not sure she would have been ready for it.

Needless to say, I was pretty pumped and humbled at the same time.
Someone knew who I was... And they like me.
Isn't that funny how we all need validation sometimes?
I love it how God gives it to us in the funniest, and randomest places.
Places like a street corner while holding a cut out sign for plants.
{Girl, you know who you are! Thank you for making my day!}

P.S. I HAVE OFFICIALLY GIVEN MY BLOG A FACEBOOK PAGE!
Check it out HERE to like the page.

I'd love to show your blog some Facebook love (or like) too.
Leave your link in the comment below.

Psalm 92:1-3
It is good to give thanks to the Lord,
    to sing praises to your name, O Most High;
to declare your steadfast love in the morning,
    and your faithfulness by night,
to the music of the lute and the harp,
to the melody of the lyre.

Five Things: Summer Edition

The fun things about this outfit:
1. Worn on Mothers Day
2. Skirt - Found in my Moms old clothes from back in the day.
(I made it into a high low)
3. Belt - Thrifted
4. Shirt - Thrifted
5. Shoes - Ross

I'm loving any sun I get these days got last week.
I thought I'd tell you why I love summer,
in hopes those heat rays will show their face again.
I know it's still May but It feels like summer when the sun comes out!

5 Things I Love about Summer
1. Fresh smell of mowed grass! You know you love it, too.
2. Sundresses E're Day! - I'm a dress girl over shorts any day.
3. Frolicking - Don't judge. I take every open field opportunity I find!
4. BBQ - I love me some hamburgers and lawn chairs... Yes, you CAN invite me over!
5. Inspiration - I know it sounds silly, especially because I love rain the same as I love sun
but for some reason summer puts me in the mood for DIY & other crafty projects.

Did I miss anything? Fill me in on why you love summer?

Hebrews 13:20-21
Now may the God of peace who brought again from the dead our Lord Jesus,
the great shepherd of the sheep, by the blood of the eternal covenant,
equip you with everything good that you may do his will, working in us
that which is pleasing in his sight, through Jesus Christ,
to whom be glory forever and ever. Amen.

What I Wore: Sick Day

The fun things about this outfit:
1. Comfy enough to sit around all day in, feeling sick.
2. Sweater - Thrifted
3. Necklace - Home Made
4. Boots - Thrifted

That's right folks, I made my necklace. Check out the tutorial HERE

Seriously, I tried to go to work in this outfit. But I got there and only stayed 15 minutes before my boss said, "I don't want your germs." I tried to stay, but he made me go home. Wow, what a great boss I have! So I packed up my computers and lounged on my couch while I worked at home. It was kind of nice. Although, I absolutely wouldn't want to do that on the daily. I'd get so distracted and hardly get any work done.

I put a smile on long enough to snap some pictures
and went back to the couch and hot cup of tea.

Thank goodness God made our bodies to be fighters.
My body is a fightin' hard to get rid of this darn'd head cold.

Psalm 103:2-5
Bless the Lord, O my soul,
and forget not all his benefits,
who forgives all your sins,
who
heals all your diseases,
who redeems your life from the pit,
who crowns you with steadfast love and mercy,
who satisfies you with good
so that your youth is renewed like the eagle's.

What I Wore: Easter Edition

The fun things about this Easter outfit:
1. Lace Dress - MADE BY ME! Yep, one of those rare times I used a pattern, too!
2. Sweater - Marshals
3. Belt - Thrifted for $1 (real leather)
4. Necklace - Thrifted for $1
5. Cream/Gold Bracelet - Thrifted for $2
6. Shoes - ShoeCafe24

I'm pretty excited that I made this dress! I'm really bad at using patterns.
So most things I make from scratch are just me winging it. But this one... I actually used
a pattern. Correctly! I'm not sure which is more impressive, but I think patterns are hard!
I really wanted to wear heels with this outfit, but because it was a Sunday I didn't.
My church isn't against heels or anything but I'm already almost 6ft tall and I tend to
sit pretty close to the front and center. I don't want to get in people's way while their
trying to see the lyrics to the music while we're standing.
So I tend to not wear heels to church.

Easter family time after church turned into an interesting afternoon. One of my brothers had to have an emergency appendectomy. So we all headed over there before surgery, rushed to go get lunch and then my parents headed back over after his recovery. So goes life. Unpredictable and amazing.

I can't post about Easter though without saying "He is Risen!"
I love those words! Music to my ears.

Colossians 3:1-4
